Introduction to International Istanbul Tango Festival

International Istanbul Tango Festivals have been organized by El Encuentro since 2004, regularly. The artists participated to those festivals are (in chronological order) Adrian Veredice - Alejandra Hobert, Ezequiel Paludi - Sabrina Masso, Mauricio Castro - Carla Marano, Los Hermanos Macana, Roxina Villegas, Pablo Villarraza - Dana Frigoli, Pablo Inza - Moira Castellano, Sebastian Arce - Mariana Montes, Celine Ruiz- Damian Rosenthal, Mariano 'Chicho' Frumboli - Juana Sepulveda, Gaston Torelli - Moira Castellano and Ruben and Sabrina Veliz.

El Encuentro is one of the most renowned tango schools in Turkey and founded by Sule and Aydogan Arkis. They have been in the Tango community of Turkey since its beginning.

Among the other organisations El Encuentro also organizes a special event in every March-April since 2007. The event is also open to the international Tango communities and concentrated on dedicated capabilities, such as body awareness, musicality, creativity, improvisation, etc. These events have hosted Andres Amarilla - Meredith Klein, Maria Mondino - Ismael Ludman, Marcela Trape, Matias Facio - Kara Wenham, Martin Guiterrez - Carolina Pizzo, Ricardo Biggeri - Soledad Larretapia, Joaquin Amanebar.

Besides those festivals El Encuentro has also been organising workshops since 2004 with worlwide well known maestros including, Milena Plebs - Ezequiel Farfaro, Andrea Misse - Leandro Palou, Geraldine Rojas - Javier Rodriguez, Eugenia Parrilla.

Sule and Aydogan have also compiled a work called "Tango In Turkey" which aims to gather all information regarding the Turkish and Argentine Tango history since the beginning of the foundation of Turkish Republic, that is 1923.

They have broadcasted a Tango radio program for three seasons which aimed to introduce all major orchestras of Tango with their masterpieces.

Sule and Aydogan also created the first country-wide tango e-group, tangoturk@yahoogroups.com in 1998.

El Encuentro today has 10 instructors and regular classes, practicas in Istanbul and their Friday milonga "La Ideal".

El Encuentro sponsored the foundation of the tree Turkish Tango Orchestras, namely, Tango Mediterraneo, Istanbul Acedemia Project and Orchestra La Ideal in Turkey.

El Encuentro led the creation of the Tango community in North Cyprus with their alliances who today teach in almost every city there. They also led the foundation of the orchestras, Tango Mediterraneo and Istanbul Academia Project.

El Encuentro is a registered member of Turkish Dance Sport Federation (TDSF) Aydogan is the Chairman of the Technical Committee of Argentine Tango branch.
